PURPOSE: A composition for multilayer piezoelectric actuators having high piezoelectric constant and low temperature sintering by adding ZnO and CuO instead of CdO to Pb£(Ni1/3Nb2/3)0.41Ti0.36Zr0.23|O3 piezoelectrics. CONSTITUTION: The composition for multilayer piezoelectric actuators, expressed by the formula of Pb£(Ni1/3Nb2/3)0.41Ti0.36Zr0.23|O3 + xmol% ZnO + ymol% CuO (1.0<=x<=9.0, 0.5<=y<=3.0), is obtained by the following steps of: mixing NiO and Nb2O5 in a ratio of 1:1 and calcining a mixture at 1000deg.C for 5hrs to get NiNb2O6; weighing raw materials such as PbO, TiO2, ZrO2 and NiNb2O6 according to the mole fraction for the formula of 0.41Pb(Ni1/3Nb2/3)O3-0.36PbTiO3-0.23PbZrO3, and wet ball-milling for 24hrs; drying milled powder and calcining at 850deg.C for 3hrs; adding calcined 1-9mol% of ZnO and 0.5-3mol% of CuO to the calcined powder, mixing, forming to a disk shape, and sintering at 850-100deg.C; polishing sintered bodies, forming electrode, and polling the ceramics at DC 3.5kV/mm for 30min in a silicon oil bath(120deg.C).
