PURPOSE: A motion picture decoding method is provided to reduce the quantity of calculations when intra prediction decoding is carried out for a 4*4 block. CONSTITUTION: A video bit stream is received from a decoder. An intra prediction mode is set for each 4*4 block of the received video bit stream. Pixel values available for the set intra prediction modes are predicted in advance. A predetermined pixel value among the predicted pixel values is used for a calculating formula of each of the prediction modes to perform decoding according to intra prediction(S402,S403,S404,S405,S406,S407). The intra prediction modes include nine intra prediction modes used in H.26L standard. Only the pixel value required for predictive decoding for each prediction mode is selectively calculated. |
