PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for removing a flicker and an afterimage of a projection image display device are provided to solve the flicker generated when the power of the device is turned on and off. CONSTITUTION: A method for removing a flicker and an afterimage of a projection image display device includes the steps of: removing the flicker to implement the align of the liquid crystal previously by supplying the charge and discharge signals of the LCD module before the apparatus is driven by applying the power to the LCD module; and removing the afterimage by rearranging the electrodes of the LCD module by applying the charge and discharge signals of the LCD module before the implementation of the turn-off of the device operational power.
