PURPOSE: A reel turning apparatus is provided to prevent damages of a reel by inserting flange-shaped members into a sustain unit, and firmly sustain the reel regardless of the shape of the center hole of the reel. CONSTITUTION: A reel turning apparatus(10) comprises a sustain unit(13) for sustaining a reel(R) for winding or unwinding a tape. A pair of flange-shaped members(R4) constituting the reel are inserted in the sustain unit so as to thereby provide rotating forces to the reel. The sustain unit includes a main portion(11) contacting the outer surface of one of the flange-shaped members, and a slave portion(12) contacting the outer surface of the other of the flange-shaped members. The main portion and the slave portions are arranged to be spaced apart from each other or contact with each other.
