PURPOSE: A compressor control device of an air conditioner and a method thereof are provided to prevent an unreasonable re-operation attempt and breakage of a compressor by sensing the volume of a current supplied to the compressor and sensing the number of times for re-operation of the compressor. CONSTITUTION: A compressor control device of an air conditioner comprises a current-sensing part(51) producing and outputting a sensing signal if the volume of a current supplied to a compressor(12) exceeds a predetermined value when the stopped compressor is re-operated; a control part(52) deciding the abnormality occurrence state of the compressor according to the sensing signal output from the current-sensing part; and a compressor-operating part(53) deciding the operating state of the compressor according to the decided result of the control part. The control part includes a counter(52a) counting the number of the sensing signals output from the current-sensing part.
