Examination system for representation of a tissue area that is to be to be examined. The examination system comprises a microscope (3) for generation of an optical image of the tissue area (7) and a tissue qualification system (13), e.g. an ultrasound system, with a handheld probe head (15) for receiving tissue data that is then evaluated by a computer (17) to classify at least two tissue types. A position determination arrangement (25, 27) determines the probe head position relative to the microscope and a marking device that marks an are based on the position of the probe head and tissue classification data.
