<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display having such characteristics that when the display is observed in the direction near the normal direction to the display surface of the display apparatus, the display is observed brighter than that in other viewing angles. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display 3 is equipped with: an electrode and an alignment layer on the inner face of one substrate 10 of the two substrates 10 and 20 opposing to each other sandwiching a liquid crystal layer 30, successively from the inner face side of the substrate 10, successively formed from the inner face of the substrate 20; a reflector 47 disposed on the outer face side of the substrate 10 of a liquid crystal cell 35b in which the electrode and the aligment layer are provided on the inner surface of the other substrate 20 successively from the substrate 20 side or disposed between the substrate 10 and the electrode 15 formed on the inner face of the substrate; and a retardation plate 27 and a polarizing plate 28 disposed in the outer face side of the substrate 20, successively disposed from the substrate 20. The display is set in such a manner that when the angle between the normal direction P<SB>1</SB>on the display screen 1a of the liquid crystal display 3 and the main observation direction α<SB>1</SB>is 0° to 20°, the reflectance for the light incident to the liquid crystal display 3 and reflected on the reflector 47 shows a peak in the range within 20° from the normal direction P<SB>1</SB>. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
