PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To artificially and automatically create microorganisms having excellent resistance and decomposing power to a specific harmful substance and usable for the restoration of environment and the disposal of wastes polluted with the harmful substance. SOLUTION: Various microbial groups are cultured and acclimatized in a number of microorganism culture tanks having automatically controlled and maintained culture conditions such as temperature and pH in the presence of a specific harmful substance. The improvement of the resistance and decomposing power of each microbial group to the specific harmful substance is quantitatively and automatically determined to select the optimum microbial group.
