Process for crosslinking sulfonated polymers using a crosslinking agent which permits reaction between two sulphonyl groups on adjacent polymer chains. Process for crosslinking sulphonyl groups in a sulfonated polymer in which at least part of the crosslinking bonds carry an ionic charge, comprises contacting the polymer with a crosslinking agent which permits reaction between two sulphonyl groups situated on adjacent polymer chains to form the crosslinking bonds.
