PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aromatic petroleum resin composition for a hot melt adhesive which, when employed in the use of the hot melt adhesive, gives excellent heat stability, i.e. thermal degradation property, solving the problems of being prone to thermal degradation, developing a skin or a precipitate at the time of formulating or manufacturing the adhesive to choke applicator nozzles, and so forth. SOLUTION: The composition is manufactured by incorporating 0.01-1.0 pt.wt. of a fatty acid amide (preferably having a melting point of 60-180°C) in 100 pts.wt. of an aromatic petroleum resin, and this is used.
