PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a packaging method using a tray capable of realizing packaging of excellent appearance while suppressing deformation or collapse of lump-like stuff to be packaged to the utmost. SOLUTION: This packaging method employs a straight moving type packaging machine. Each set of lump-like stuff (fresh udon noodle m) placed in a tray 10 is loaded on a conveyor 5 in one row. The stuff conveyed by the conveyor is inserted into a packaging bag (a) which is horizontally held in an open state together with the tray 10 by a filling means 15 in a filling step. The packaging bag is changed from the horizontal attitude to the vertical attitude in a second step of the filling step. In a tray drawing step, the tray 10 is chucked by a chuck 56 of a tray drawing device 50, and drawn out of the packaging bag (a). Next, the chuck discharges the tray 10 outside the packaging machine by its opening operation, a bag mouth (b) of the packaging bag (a) is sealed by a bag mouth sealing step, and the packaging bag as a product is discharged out of the packaging machine in a product discharging step.
