PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a speed control method for a vehicle with a travel speed control device to protect a brake from wear and overheating. SOLUTION: In the vehicle speed control method in which an actual speed is followed up by a target speed, in order to reduce the actual speed, a transmission (1) of a vehicle (5) is downshifted, so that the brake is protected from wear and overheating.
