PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical mode division multiplexing, and a method and device for demultiplexing. SOLUTION: A method of transferring a signal from a first mode of a first waveguide to a second mode of a second waveguide, comprizes a step of adiabatically transferring the signal from a first region of the first waveguide to a second proximal region of the second waveguide.
