PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polymer aqueous dispersion composition capable of forming a film which compatibilizes contradictary properties of hardness and flexibilty, and to provide a method for producing the polymer aqueous dispersion which can provide the composition. SOLUTION: The method for producing the polymer aqueous dispersion comprises subjection a monomer system [2] containing≥1 mass% compound (b) having a solubility in water at 20°C of≤1 mass% to emulsion polymerization in an aqueous medium in the presence of seed particles obtained by the emulsion polymerization of a monomer system [1] containing≥0.1 mass% carbonyl group-containing unsaturated monomer (a) having at least one carbony group in the molecule in an aqueous medium.
