[Problems to be Solved]To provide a novel process for simply and easily obtaining a phenylalanine derivative having a high optical purity starting from a cinnamic acid derivative having a substituent on the phenyl group; and a microorganism applied to this process. [Means to Solve the Problems] A process for producing an L-phenylalanine derivative, characterized in that a microorganism belonging to the genus Cladosporium, an ingredient containing the microorganism or a material treated with the microorganism is allowed to act in the presence of a cinnamic acid derivative and ammonia.
