A control device for a variable capacity compressor where the discharge capacity of the compressor is controlled by controlling a control pressure chamber. The control device has pressure-controlling means provided with an outflow-side opening-regulating mechanism that regulates the opening of the penetration at least between the control pressure chamber and a suction pressure region. The pressure in the control pressure chamber is controlled by this pressure-controlling means. The opening between the control pressure chamber and the suction pressure region is larger at a full stroke region of a valve of the outflow-side opening-regulating mechanism or of a piston of the compressor than other regions. Further, the opening between the control pressure chamber and the suction pressure region is larger at the full-stroke region and a full de-stroke region than an intermediate stroke region. The efficiency of the compressor in a short stroke operation region is increased, and the start-up of the compressor is reliably performed. Further, in the short stroke region, the control device prevents hunting from occurring, achieving smooth control.
