APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR DETERMINING CONDITION OF ROAD SURFACE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for determining the condition of road surfaces for accurately grasping the occurrence of a slippery road surface in real time by distinguishing a relatively unslippery road surface from an extremely slippery road surface on snowy road surfaces and icy road surfaces.

SOLUTION: An imaging part 2 images a region on a road surface including such a range as to image regularly reflected light of light irradiated onto the road surface by an irradiation part. A control part 3 detects the degree of the formation of a mirror surface in the road surface imaged by the imaging part 2 on the basis of the distribution of reflected light in an image imaged by the imaging part 2 when light is irradiated toward a prescribed range on the road surface by an illumination part 1. By this, it is possible to distinguish a relatively unslippery road surface from an extremely slippery road surface on snowy road surfaces and icy road surfaces.
