PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device which can remove a coating layer of a coated optical fiber at a desired length with high certainty without breaking or damaging an optical fiber, can execute the removal of the coating layer at a high yield and insures easy maintenance without occurrence of sticking of cutting refuse. SOLUTION: The device includes a pair of cutting blades having straight edges which face one above the other and are parted apart a prescribed distance. The device is constituted to first rotate the coated optical fiber by the motion of the cutting blades to be closed by a horizontal movement from the open blade state parted to both wings of the coated optical fiber and to cut the circumferential of the coating layer. Also, the device includes a pair of cutting blades to put a cut line to the coated optical fiber in its major axis direction.
