PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten intervals of photographing without giving a user a sense of incongruity. SOLUTION: A digital camera 2 is provided with a mode selection switch 23 for selecting a photographing mode of photographing a subject or a reproducing mode of reproducing a photographed picture, a mode detection means 25 for detecting which of these modes is selected, and a power-off detection means 24 for detecting that a power switch 22 has been turned off. Image data is subjected to distortion compensation by a signal processing circuit 16 in the case that switching from the photographing mode to the reproducing mode has been detected by the mode detection means 25 or power-off has been detected by the power-off detection means 24.
