PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a fabric which has low air permeability, excellent tenacity and heat resistance and flexibility and thin thickness and is useful for various kinds of non-clothing applications, especially for an air bag and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The fabric is obtained by using filament yarns of flat cross-sectional fibers with the cross-sectional shape of each filament having a flatness ratio (the ratio of major axis length to minor axis length) of 1.5-8 as warps and wefts. In the section of the fabric, the horizontal degree index (HI) expressed by the total average of cosines (hi) of angles (θ) between the major axis directions and the horizontal directions of the fabric of each of the warp and the weft filaments constituting the fabric is 0.85-1.0.
