The invention relates to a large dimensioned barge comprising a hull (1) which ensures buoyancy and an upper deck (16) which can support the equipment (6). The length of the aforementioned hull is preferably at least 100m and the breadth thereof is less than half of the length. According to the invention, the hull (1) comprises at least one chamber (21 - 24) consisting of a recess which is disposed in one of the peripheral walls (11 - 14) of said hull along part of the length (XX') or breadth (YY') and part of the height (ZZ') thereof. The aforementioned recess is located at least partially in the submerged part of the hull. The chamber (2) comprises lateral chamber walls (32) and a chamber base (31) which are connected to the above-mentioned peripheral wall (11 - 14) of the hull by means of at least one chamber floor (35) and a chamber ceiling (34), said floor (35) and ceiling (34) providing the connection between the lateral chamber walls (32).
