<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To verify the hue of a test print in a color printer or the like and to provide different test print modes since a monochrome test print is also required as a machine serving as a monochrome printer as well. <P>SOLUTION: An input image is discriminated in two or more image areas and toner-saving processing that differs depending on the result of image area discrimination is performed. When the target pixel of the input image is discriminated to be a chromatic color, toner-saving processing is performed by keeping the hue.
