<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an evaluation method and an evaluation system which are capable of more justly evaluating an optical transmitter. <P>SOLUTION: After a bit rate B of intensity modulated light outputted from the optical transmitter being an evaluation object and a cumulative wavelength distribution D of an optical fiber being an optical transmission line on which the light is transmitted are set so as to satisfy a prescribed relation, the performance of the optical transmitter is evaluated on the basis of a position relation between an optical waveform after transmission on the optical fiber and a pulse mask M. When the performance of the optical transmitter is evaluated, optical receivers having large individual differences are not used.
