PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an environmental monitoring system adapted to manage the operation of an environmental plant while taking the environment in areas around the plant into consideration, regarding the contamination of the environmental plant. SOLUTION: The environmental plant 1 is installed in the vicinity of a river 2 to discharge decontaminated waste water 3 into the river 2. The environmental plant 1 is provided with a water quality monitoring device 4 to detect the concentrations of contaminants discharged. The concentrations of various contaminants contained in water in the river 2 upstream and downstream of the environmental plant 1 are detected. An atmosphere monitoring device 7 is installed around the environmental plant 1 to detect the concentrations of exhausts 6 emitted from the environmental plant 1 and contaminants contained in the atmosphere there. The values detected are collected at a management center 10, and data are analyzed to predict the concentrations of contaminants around the environmental plant 1. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
