PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller for a vehicle capable of achieving both a target drive force and excellent fuel consumption. SOLUTION: There are provide a motor 1, a generator 6, and an energy storage device 4. An operation condition detecting means detects an operation condition for a vehicle. A power consumption calculating means calculates the power consumption of the motor 1 based on the operation condition. A target power generation calculating means calculates a target power generation for making the generator 6 generate such power as follows the power consumption at a prescribed response speed. An input/output capability detecting means detects inputting/outputting capability of the energy storage device 4.
