PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for capable of exactly ascertaining a remaining quantity of a camera battery only by simple control operation, and accurately measuring the remaining quantity of battery irrespective of ambient conditions. SOLUTION: The method is a method for checking the remaining quantity of a battery 1 on a camera C provided with a stroboscopic device. The remaining quantity of the battery 1 is judged by using the direct current resistance of a primary winding 401a of a step-up transformer 401 for charging the main capacitor of the stroboscopic device 4 and based on the voltage drop by this direct current resistance. The device for checking the remaining quantity of the battery is a device for performing the above method for checking the remaining quantity of the battery, and is provided with a means for measuring the voltage drop value based on the the direct current resistance value of the primary winding 401a, and a determining means (CPU 2 or the like) for determining the remaining quantity of the battery 1 based on the measured voltage drop value.
