PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact recording and reproducing device in which a floating type head is moved on the flat surface of a disk recording medium in a direction parallel to the surface and in a fan shaped manner and which has functions for dealing with high speed access and high density recording. SOLUTION: In the device, a slider and a head are arranged and fixed on the tip end of a swing arm member which is capable of moving in a fan shaped swinging manner. A solid immersion lens is used for the head and light beams are radiated from the fulcrum of the rotating shaft of the swing arm member along the arm. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
