PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording method and device, by which a recording area of an information recording medium is effectively utilized, and the high speed operation is also maintained. SOLUTION: In this method, data are recorded by using an optical means with respect to the information recording medium. The method includes a step for recording the data in trial to the above information recording medium at a 1st recording linear velocity and a step for judging whether the data are recorded in the above trial recording step, and when it is judged in the above judging step that no data is recorded in the trial recording step, the trial recording step is carried out again at a 2nd recording linear velocity lower than the 1st recording linear velocity.
