PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low thermal expansion alloy of an Fe-Ni-Co base for a shadow mask, which prevents thermal expansion and color shift by the drift of an electron beam due to terrestrial magnetism. SOLUTION: The low thermal expansion alloy for the shadow mask comprises, by mass%, 30-34% Ni, 2-6% Co and the balance substantially iron, as a chemical composition, and is characterized by a maxim relative magnetic-permeability of 5×10<SP>3</SP>or more. The alloy further may comprise 0.01-0.5% or less Mn and impurities of 0.01% or less C, 0.1% or less Si, 0.01% or less P and 0.01% or less S, and further can be characterized by 0.3 mm or less of sheet thickness, 5×10<SP>2</SP>or more of the productμmax×t of the maximum relative permeabilityμmax and sheet thickness t (mm), and 60 A/m or less of a coercive force.
