The present invention describes vectors and methods for the induction of a humoral immune response in an animal or human host wherein the vectors comprise a DNA sequence encoding one or more antigens, operably linked to a promoter, such as a MHC class II promoter. These promoters direct preferential or specific expression in antigen presenting cells.
