PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a torque converter capable of sufficiently withstanding a thrust load acting on an output gear and reducing the axial dimension of the hub of a side cover. SOLUTION: In this torque converter, a one-way clutch 33 allowing the transmission of only a reverse load is installed between the hub 31h of the side cover 31 connected continuously with a pump impeller 20 and covering the rear surface of a turbine impeller 21 and a turbine hub 21h and the output gear 3 is connected to the turbine hub 21h. The axial both ends of the entire parts of a stator hub 22h, bearings 27, turbine hub 21h, and output gear 3 which are axially adjacent to each other are pivotally supported on a pump hub 11 and the outer tube 36 of a free wheel 41 through first and second needle bearings 26 and 26'.
