PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dishwasher which shortens the washing time by heating air having a lower specific heat in a washing compartment first, and generating hot water by the heated air, increases the energy consumption efficiency, and elongates the life of a heater. SOLUTION: The air in the washing compartment is heated, water is fed into the washing compartment, and the hot water is generated by a heat-exchange between the heated air and the fed water. As another example, the feeding of water into the washing compartment is started, an air generator is operated, and the fed water and the air in the washing compartment are heated. When a set variable corresponding to the characteristics of the washing compartment exceeds a first value, the feeding of water is stopped, and the air generator is operated in a first stage.
