PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To equalize the quantity of energy being consumed by respective recording elements without varying the pulse width being applied thereto regardless of variation in the resistance of the recording elements or the resistance of power supply lines. SOLUTION: The recording head having a plurality of recording elements R1 connected with a common power supply comprises a circuit 103 for generating a reference voltage from the power supply by providing a switching element Q1 for controlling the driving of the recording elements with a voltage being applied to a control terminal in correspondence with each recording element R1, and a voltage control circuit 101 for controlling the potential difference between the terminals of the recording element to be equalized with the reference voltage wherein the reference voltage is set to be in proportion to the root of the resistance of the recording element.
