The vehicle computer system has a control device for displaying a main menu and several sub-menus each having at least one selectable menu point. The system also has an operating unit for selecting and activating a menu point from within the main or sub menus. The system further includes a switch element. Repeated operation of the switch element enables the control device to activate the individual menu points of the main menu according to a predetermined sequence. Independent claims also cover a method of operating the system.
