PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high temperature oxidation resistant carbonaceous shaped article, which exhibits excellent oxidation resistance even when it is used in an environment where a heat cycle between a high temperature and a low temperature is repeated. SOLUTION: The high temperature oxidation resistant carbonaceous shaped article includes a carbon-containing base material 11 on whose surface a carbide-forming metal is formed by diffusion, a metal carbide-containing layer 12 which has cracks 12a, glassy members 13a which are filled in the cracks 12a and formed from a glassy material, and a glassy material layer 13 which is formed on the surface of the metal carbide-containing layer 12.
