<p>An organic EL device excellent in luminous efficiency, luminance, and color purity of red light. The organic EL device is characterized in that it has an anode, a cathode, and an organic thin-film layer interposed between the anode and cathode, and in that the organic thin-film layer contains as an emitting material either a violanthrene compound expressed by structural formula (1) or an isoviolanthrene compound expressed by structural formula (2). Structural Formula (1) In structural formula (1), R<1> to R<18> can be the same or different, they denote a hydrogen atom or a substituent, and at least one of them is a group expressed by structural formula (3). Structural Formula (3) In structural formula (3), R<37> and R<38> can be the same or different, they denote a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, or an aryl group, and R<37> and R<38> can be directly or indirectly bonded to each other. Structural formula (2) In structural formula (2), R<19> to R<36> can be the same or different, they denote a hydrogen atom or a substituent, and at least one of them is a group expressed by structural formula (3).</p> |
