<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of enhancing a cleaning ability, and also, preventing a blade from getting turned up. <P>SOLUTION: As for the image forming apparatus provided with a cleaning blade 30a for cleaning a carrying belt 3 or an intermediate transfer body 4, and a lubricant applying mechanism of applying lubricant 32 on the surface of the carrying belt 3 or the intermediate transfer body 4, whether the carrying belt 3, the intermediate transfer body 4 or the cleaning blade 30a is a new one or not is detected, and then, the lubricant applying mechanism is actuated so as to apply the lubricant 32 on the surface of the carrying belt 3 or the intermediate transfer body 4. Besides, the installation temperature and humidity of the image forming apparatus are detected, and in the case the apparatus is installed under a prescribed environment, the lubricant applying mechanism is actuated so as to apply the lubricant 32 on the surface of the carrying belt 3 or the intermediate transfer body 4. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
