<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the luminous efficiency of a LED having a light emitting element composed of a gallium nitride-based compound semiconductor material and, in addition, to improve the luminance of the diode. <P>SOLUTION: The light emitting diode has the light emitting element disposed on the bottom face of a metal recess, and a resin surrounding the light emitting element. The element is composed of a gallium nitride-based compound semiconductor laminated in both n- and p-types. In the resin, a fluorescent dye or pigment which emits light having a wavelength longer than an excitation wavelength by exciting the light emitted from the light emitting element is added. The resin containing the added fluorescent dye or pigment is disposed in, above, beside, and under the metal recess. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
