<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low power consumption gas sensor element with a novel structure which has superior durability and high measurement precision, and provide a gas sensor employing the gas sensor element. <P>SOLUTION: The gas sensor element is provided with an alumina insulating main substrate (11), an Ip cell (12) and a Vs cell (13). The cells (12/13) include solid electrolyte layers (121/131) and electrodes (122, 125/132, 135). A diffusion room (141) is formed between the cells (12/13), and at least a portion of inside walls being opposite to each other and vertically comparting the diffusion room (141) in a laminating direction is composed of one of electrode sections (126/133) respectively. The substrate (11) is junctioned with the cell (13) directly or indirectly through another member on the side where the diffusion room (141) of the cell (13) is not formed. The solid electrolyte layers (121/131) contain 20-90 mass % of stabilized zirconia and 10-80 mass % of alumina so that the total amount of the stabilized zirconia and the alumina is not less than 95 mass %. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
