<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable correct input operation without depending on vision. <P>SOLUTION: A plurality of displacement elements 3 are formed in the arrangement of a matrix on the top face of a substrate 2. When an instruction to form convexity is given to each displacement element 3 through control wires 4, 5, each displacement element closes a microvalve 11 to power a heater 7. Thereby a liquid contained in an inflating element 8 is vaporized, pressure within the inflating element 8 builds up, and a chip part 14 provided at the tip of the inflating element 8 abuts a film layer 6 to form the convexity. When an instruction to eliminate the convexity is given, each displacement element cuts off power to the heater 7 to open the microvalve 11. This causes the pressure within the inflating element 8 to drop, causing contraction of the inflating element 8 and eliminating the convexity owing to the restoring force of the film layer 6. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
