PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an on-vehicle image pickup system for monitor which picks up images of a wide area around a vehicle body by one lens group and easily provides accurate and sufficient information to a driver on the basis of the images. SOLUTION: The system is provided with an imaging device for converting images formed on an imaging surface to electric signals and a lens group which picks up the image of a prescribed area including vicinities of both end parts of a vehicle body surface to form its image on the imaging surface by the one lens group and is formed so as to have the optical axis made orthogonal to the direction of the vehicle body surface, so that the image of an area from a position being 1m ahead of a front bumper on the side of the vehicle to a position being 1m behind a rear bumper can be picked up by one camera and accurate and sufficient information can be easily displayed on a monitor without depending upon complicated picture compositing technology.
