USE OF COMPOUNDS HAVING THE BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITY OF VASOACTIVE INTESTINAL PEPTIDE FOR THE TREATMENT OF CHRONIC OBSTRUCTIVE PULMONARY DISEASE

The present invention relates to the use of peptides and pharmaceutical compositions containing said peptides, that are highly biologically and pharmacologically active as therapeutic drugs for the treatment of diseases related to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) which is preferably not correlated to pulmonary hypertension symptoms. Furthermore, the invention discloses the use of said peptides for another lung disease which is acute (adult) respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). It could be shown that the known naturally occurring peptides "vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP)" and "pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP)" as well as analogues or derivatives of VIP and PACAP can be successfully used for the treatment of said diseases.
