Enabling management of contacts includes creating a single list of contacts that is stored in a central repository (380). A member (305) is enabled to define a group of contacts from the single list of contacts and represent th e group of contacts by a unique identifier (430). The member is enabled to adress communications sent from multiple applications to the group of contac ts represented by the unique identifier.
