摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small and light-weighted relative angle detector having a wide detection range, and a virtual reality feeling providing system using the detector. <P>SOLUTION: This relative angle detector for detecting a rotational angle with respect to a prescribed initial direction within a prescribed plane of a unit is provided with a light source part 210 provided separately from the unit to emit polarized light of which the polarization direction is varied with a prescribed period along a direction substantially vertical to the prescribed plane, a photoreception unit 221 provided with a polarization filter 223 for receiving the light emitted from the light source part 210 provided integrally with the unit, and an optical detecting element 224 for detecting the light transmitted through the polarization filter, and a calculating means 55 for calculating the relative angle of the unit with respect to the prescribed initial direction, based on the polarization direction of the light emitted from the light source part 210 at the time point when a signal output from the optical detecting element 224 comes to a prescribed value. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
