摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an optically active alcohol containing a thiophene ring and useful as a synthetic intermediate for pharmaceuticals, etc., in high reaction yield and optical yield on an industrial scale at a low cost. <P>SOLUTION: The method for the production of an optically active alcohol containing a thiophene ring comprises the asymmetric reduction of a &beta;-ketocarbonyl compound having thiophene ring in the presence of a compound of a group 8 or group 9 metal of the periodic table (e.g. a ruthenium compound) and an asymmetric ligand expressed by a specific optically active diamine derivative (e.g. diphenylethylenediamine derivative) and more preferably in the presence of a hydrogen donor and a base. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
