PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a reliable disk loading device which allows miniaturization and a low profile of a device to be realized, allows an inserted disk to be clamped stably reliably, and allows the damage on a recording surface of the disk to be prevented. SOLUTION: This disk loading method comprises a turntable driven by a spindle motor, a pickup for reading information on a loaded disk, and a traverse unit for moving the pickup in the radial direction of the disk, in an interior of a frame constituted by a bottom cover and a top cover. Further, the method is such a disk loading method that the traverse unit is constituted so as to turn in a predetermined angle about near the outer edge of the loaded disk, and the turntable moves between disk standby and a clamped state of the disk by the turn of the traverse unit. Moreover, when the traverse unit is in the disk standby, the pickup is located in the direction of outer circumference of the disk. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
