PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus constituted so that a cam which contacts with/separates from a cleaning member is prevented from being rotated by external force. SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus where the cleaning member 12 contacts with/separates from an image carrier 8 and such contacting/separating operation is performed by cam mechanisms 15 and 18, torque load larger than force that a cam shaft 16 receives due to the cleaning member 12 is applied to the cam shaft 16.
