<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-performance solid polymer fuel cell with excellent stability by eliminating the stagnant of condensed water or product water in a gas diffusion layer to enable a uniform gas supply to an electrode through intermittent changeover of directions of supply of oxidant gas or fuel gas to a cell without changing gas flow volume, and lowering of porosity of the gas diffusion layer contacting with a boundary part of an outward and inward channels of a meandering gas distribution groove. <P>SOLUTION: Supply of gas is made uniform by intermittently changing supply directions of oxidant gas or fuel gas to the cell, and by lowering the porosity of the gas diffusion layer in contact with a boundary part of an outward and inward channels of a meandering gas distribution groove, and a stable and more efficient operation of the cell is enabled by preventing the condensed water and product water in the gas diffusion layer from being stagnated or a state of drying-up. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
