PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To save energy by controlling an ultraviolet ray amount in a printing device which prints by an ultraviolet curing ink, and hardens to fix the ultraviolet curing ink by irradiating ultraviolet rays. SOLUTION: An ultraviolet ray emitting means, and a means capable of varying its output are set. An irradiation strength of ultraviolet rays of the ultraviolet ray emitting means is controlled to be a value obtained by dividing an exposure amount necessary for hardening the ultraviolet curing ink by a time while a recording medium 111 passes an irradiation range. The irradiation strength of ultraviolet rays of the ultraviolet ray emitting means is strengthened at the time of high-speed printing and weakened at the time of low-speed printing. The ultraviolet ray emitting means is turned off when the medium 111 is not present in the irradiation range of the means. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
