PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance identification performance in a pattern identifying device for identifying a pattern of an identifying object such as a coin, based on an image of the identifying object acquired by an image pick-up means. SOLUTION: The presence of dew condensation in a passage 13 is detected by providing a dew condensation detecting means 82 for detecting the presence of the dew condensation in the passage 13 in the vicinity of the image pick-up means 16. Malfunction by an abnormal image data is prevented, a dew condensation preventing means is operated, and the generation of dew drops is informed, by omitting control processing of the imaging means 16 not to be executed.
